Written invitation cards are, of course, a must for every wedding. The most important information should be on an invitation card. In some regions, for instance in Bavaria, it was a usual procedure in the past to invite the guests through a person who invited them by knocking on every door to pass on the message of the wedding. Nowadays it is still common to invite the guests through such a person. Concerning invitations their aspect or form is the most important thing, as it should whet the apetite of the people to go to the wedding. Furthermore the invitation should be sent early enough as not only bride and groom but also the guests need to plan. Of course partners who may not be known yet are invited too. Nobody should go to a wedding without his or her partner. Desired presents might be indicated on the invitation, e.g. if only a gift of money is desired you should state that on the invitation. Then there won´t be any rude surprises and the guests know immediately what to give. Furthermore, of course, place, time and date of the civil wedding and/or the church wedding are important to state and the place of the celebration (for guests who might come later). Important is also the indication, that it is necessary to get a response from the guest till a certain date. In addition the invitation can have a directions scetch or indications for a dress code as well as a hotel in the proximity.
